Hexoskin Selected for the Inaugural Mayo Clinic and ASU MedTech Accelerator

Our team is excited to announce that Hexoskin is one of only six medical technology companies selected by the Mayo Clinic and Arizona State University (ASU) for its inaugural MedTech Accelerator cohort. The accelerator, which is part of the Mayo Clinic Arizona State University Alliance for Health Care, was designed specifically for medical device and health care technology companies looking to partner with Mayo Clinic and ASU.

"The inaugural cohort of the program consists of six extremely dynamic startups with product offerings we feel are poised to improve patient care and outcomes through their new innovations," says Steven Lester, M.D., a Mayo Clinic cardiologist and medical director of the accelerator. Dr. Lester, professor of Medicine, is also associate medical director of Mayo Clinic's Department of Business Development.

"At Hexoskin we see a great fit between our vision for at-home patient monitoring, post-acute care, and chronic disease management and Mayo Clinic's mission to put the best interest of the patient first." says Pierre-Alexandre Fournier, MScA, Co-founder and CEO of Hexoskin.

Hexoskin provides a seamless integration of its smart shirts for vital signs monitoring with hospitals’ existing processes to improve upon the patient experience. The accelerator program gives Hexoskin the opportunity to collaborate with the country’s most distinguished medical mentors and researchers and develop new clinical opportunities for Hexoskin technology.

Government of Canada confirmed Canada's commitment to Nasa Lunar Gateway program

The government of Canada confirmed today, Thursday, February 28, 2019, Canada's commitment to the Lunar Gateway space mission led by the United States, to give Canada's space program a new momentum. The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau announced historic investments in Canada’s space programThe Government of Canada will invest $2.05 billion over 24 years for Canada's space program. It will help grow innovative Canadian companies of all sizes by supporting the development of new digital and artificial intelligence-based technologies, and by opening new markets for Canadian businesses (Prime Minister's Office).

This investment will also give Canadian astronauts the opportunity to participate in missions to space and our scientists a chance to conduct cutting-edge research that cannot be done on Earth.

At Hexoskin, since we started working with Canadian Space Agency in 2011, we designed medical monitoring systems with the goal of fulfilling the autonomy requirements of future missions to the Moon and Mars. The spillover effects of space exploration projects are applicable beyond human spaceflight and find applications on earth that benefit humanity.

The technologies we're developing will allow a greater number of people to access regular care, especially patients with chronic cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. The software being developed for medical autonomous systems has the potential to deliver automated health services, affordable and accessible 24/7.

After today's announcement, we hope that Hexoskin will be able to contribute to future missions to the Moon, by supplying innovative medical technologies for crew members taking the trip.

Hexoskin - AI Applications Summit Biopharma Boston

Our team will attend the AI Applications Summit Biopharma in Boston this week (October 25-26).

Hexoskin was founded in 2006 to develop sensors and information systems to support Artificial Intelligence applications for clinical research and healthcare. Over the years, we've worked with many organisations to develop systems to make a better use of clinical data, and we've learned a few things from it:

  • Great AI needs great data: data collection is the foundation of all AI work.
  • 90% of AI work is in processing and annotating data. AI modeling is the "easy" part.
  • Define valuable endpoints first, then define how to collect the relevant data to build your models.
  • When using connected devices and mobile devices for data collection, design a patient-centric pilot trial first to validate human factor assumptions.

There's a lot more to know to operationalize AI projects in clinical trials of course. Even when working with a technological partner, you'll need to have people in your team with the skills to manage the digital component of the project. Please reach out to us if you need advice on best practices and operations.

In short, there's a lot of opportunity for AI in clinical trials, from patient recrutement to data modeling, including virtual trials and phase IV trials. We're looking forward to share insights with you in Boston this week!
